Stevia - Sweeter than sugar and much better for you

April 04, 2017

Its common knowledge that artificial sweeteners are bad news  and cause many detrimental effects to a persons health including:

  • Weight Gain - Significantly greater in those who drink diet beverages using artificial sweeteners
  • Metabolic Syndrome - Metabolic syndrome is a variety of conditions including increased blood pressure, a high blood sugar level, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels which together, contribute to increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Type 2 Diabetes - In a European study, the risk for developing type 2 diabetes more than doubled for participants in the highest quartile of diet beverage consumption, compared with non-consumers.
  • Cardiovascular Disease - Studies indicate that daily consumption of artificially-sweetened beverages show significantly increased risk of vascular events, equal in magnitude to daily consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.

There is an alternative however and a very natural one at that.

Stevia is derived from a South American shrub (Stevia Rebaudiana). An all-natural sweetener which unlike sugar or synthetic sweeteners does not affect blood sugar levels and has a zero calorific content.

Because its natural, stevia doesnt pollute the bloodstream , a major reason to steer clear of artificial sweeteners. Stevia is also far sweeter than table sugar (250-300 times), meaning you need to use less of it to achieve the same taste effect, and its this effect that cuts the craving for sugary foods. When this craving is cut, your calorie intake falls, aiding your dietary & supplementation goals. Stevia is quickly becoming a contemporary sweetener of choice for the health conscious. We feel the use of Stevia compliments our clean natural whey powders beautifully.
